Threads for business: is it worth posting, and how to schedule it

What Threads is good for, what a business should post there, and how to schedule Threads posts, polls, carousels and reply chains with reply controls.

Threads is Meta's text-first app, built on your Instagram identity. You create a Threads profile with your Instagram account, and many of your Instagram followers can find you there with a tap. For a business, that raises two questions: is it worth adding another channel, and if so, how do you keep it going without it eating your week?

This guide gives an honest answer to the first and a practical routine for the second.

What Threads is good for

Threads rewards conversation more than polish. A plain sentence with a clear opinion or a question often does better than a designed graphic. That makes it a good fit for:

  • Behind-the-scenes notes: what you are testing, what sold out, what went wrong today.
  • Questions to your customers: "Which flavour should come back for Raya?" works better as a poll than as an Instagram caption.
  • Quick updates: changed hours, a restock, a short link to something new.
  • Personality: owners and small teams who write well can build a following without video production.

It is a weaker fit if your business depends on visuals alone, or if nobody on the team enjoys writing short posts and replying to comments.

Is it worth it for your business?

A simple test: post three times a week for a month and look at your own numbers. Threads shares views, likes, replies, reposts, quotes, link clicks and follower counts with apps, and audience breakdowns by country, city, age and gender once a profile has 100 followers or more. Meta labels some Threads numbers as still in development, so treat small changes with caution.

If after a month you see real replies from real customers, keep going. If you hear nothing back, put the time into the channel that already works for you. There is no rule that a business must be everywhere.

What you can post on Threads

Post typeDetails
Text postUp to 500 characters, with a link preview or a GIF
Photo or videoOne photo, or one video of up to 5 minutes
CarouselUp to 20 photos and videos in one post
PollTwo to four options on a text post
Reply chainA thread of posts, each with its own media, published in order
Quote postQuote one of your existing posts

A few rules worth knowing:

  • Link previews only appear on text-only posts, and a post can contain up to 5 links.
  • One topic per post. A hashtag in your text becomes the post's topic.
  • Threads posts cannot be edited through apps after publishing, so read them once more before scheduling.

Reply controls: decide who can answer

Threads lets you choose who can reply to each post: everyone, only profiles you follow, or only profiles you mention. You can also approve replies before they show.

For a business, a sensible default is "everyone" for questions and polls, where replies are the point, and a narrower setting for announcements that tend to attract spam. If you run giveaways, check the replies regularly.

Share to your Instagram Story

Threads can share a post to your Instagram Story automatically, with a dark-mode option. It is an easy way to tell your Instagram followers that you are on Threads, without making a separate Story. If the share fails for any reason, the Threads post stays live.

How to schedule Threads posts

Threads' API does not let apps schedule a post inside Threads, so a scheduling tool holds your post and publishes it through the official API at the time you set.

A practical weekly routine:

  1. Monday, 20 minutes: write three to five posts. Mix them: one question or poll, one behind-the-scenes note, one update with a photo or a link.
  2. Turn longer ideas into reply chains. A five-part "how we make our kaya" thread works well as a chain, each part with its own photo.
  3. Set reply controls per post.
  4. Schedule across the week at the times your audience is active. Your own data is the best guide; see how to find your best time to post.
  5. Reply in person. Scheduling handles the posting. The replies are where Threads pays off, so set aside ten minutes a day.

Threads allows up to 250 posts and 1,000 replies per profile in any 24 hours, far more than a business needs, but useful to know if several people post for the same profile.

Scheduling Threads with Watchpost

In Watchpost, Threads sits in the same composer and calendar as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and Google Business Profile. You can write a post once for several channels and adjust the Threads tab, or write a Threads-only post with:

  • photos, videos, carousels, polls, GIFs and link previews;
  • multi-part reply chains, published in order;
  • who can reply, and approval of replies;
  • a location tag and a topic tag;
  • an automatic share to your Instagram Story.

Threads posting from Watchpost depends on Meta approving the app for public use. Until then, only profiles Meta has approved as testers can connect, and the app shows this status clearly. Every option is listed on the Threads page.

A starting plan for your first month

  • Week 1: introduce yourself. Who you are, what you sell, one photo of the team or the shop.
  • Week 2: ask a question each day with a poll.
  • Week 3: post one reply chain that teaches something useful.
  • Week 4: look at your numbers and decide whether Threads stays.

Threads works best when it sounds like a person, not a brochure. Schedule the posts, then show up for the conversation.
